The Michigan Hispanic Collaborative (MiHC) focuses on economic equity and provides opportunities for first-generation Hispanic students to graduate from college. Our culturally relevant, 2-generation strategy focuses on creating a college-going culture in the community by involving parents in the process. To address concerns and build a college going culture for Hispanic parents of first generation college bound students and those currently pursuing undergraduate degrees, MiHC’s Cafecitos model celebrates students and families while addressing fears stalling their college access and persistence. By building strong peer communities of support, parents benefit from practical advice from an experienced parent peer facilitator, a Hispanic professional, and one another to ensure families understand the college process.

La Puerta will offer parents access to informative resources to cultivate a college-going environment:

    • Access to student resources
    • Access to calendar of events
    • Parent support resources
